Living Arts&#8217;s <I>Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss</I> is an unbelievable example of how DVD features can be utilized to strengthen a workout program. The same workout is presented five different ways, and you can also choose the combined (which shows all four modifications), complete, relatively modified, partially modified, or fully modified program. The four modifications each focus on a different instructor, and the audio instruction explains the specific moves for each level. At any point all through the 45-minute workout, you&#8217;ll press the &#8220;angle&#8221; key on your remote to switch to a different modification level, enabling you to get the most productive workout you&#8217;ll without straining yourself. In addition, at times a small &#8220;personal instructor&#8221; icon will appear in the lower right corner of the screen. By pressing enter, the program switches to instructor Suzanne Deason in the yoga studio who carefully explains how to do the pose. Each of these poses are explained based on the level you are watching (for example, at the fully modified level, Deason will demonstrate the pose the use of bricks or straps). When Jillian Michaels says &#8220;you&#8217;ll lose up to 20 pounds in 30 days&#8221; by following her 20-minute-a-day workout, imagine her. There&#8217;s a reason her <i>30 Day Shred</i> workout has turn out to be a national hit: it works. But anyone who&#8217;s ever seen Michaels work out with contestants on <i>The Biggest Loser</i> knows it&#8217;s not necessarily going to be easy. The <i>30 Day Shred</i> features three 20-minute workouts, each of which features, in rapid succession, short bursts of strength, cardio, and abs, and a cool-down. Sound easy? Think again. Even the beginner-level workout will have users&#8217; heart rates up. Michaels allows no resting between each short burst of exercise, which is a part of why the results happen so quickly. The transitions between strength, which can feature classic moves like pushups or reps with small weights, and cardio, and then between cardio and abs, are a mere second or two. But that pacing helps guarantee the results that Michaels touts. &#8220;This helps you burn more fat and more calories, and gets you toned that much faster,&#8221; Michaels exhorts as she zips through the exercises. There are a few modified moves for true beginners, but even for them, Michaels doesn&#8217;t cut much slack; <i>everyone</i> has to do real jumping jacks, and a large number of them. &#8220;I have 400-pound people who can do jumping jacks,&#8221; Michaels says &#8220;and if they may be able to do it, you&#8217;ll do it!&#8221; The only thing you wish to have to jump into the <i>30 Day Shred</i> is a set of small hand weights, and, if you have a hard floor, a mat for the floor moves. The Drift session will build strength and stamina by taking postures from Ashtanga yoga and sequencing them into a simple, natural Drift that aids in weight loss, tones muscle, improves balance and calms mental focal point. These two diverse programs could also be practiced in my view but are also perfect to complement every other in the same day.
